Exilis™ Elite Face
Exilis offers a revolutionary non-invasive form of treatment for the reshaping of targeted fat deposits and for the reduction of wrinkles. The Exilis treatment is safe for patients of all ages who are showing signs of ageing, are over weight or want to improve those problem areas that exercise and diet have plateaued. It’s safe, FDA-cleared and effective. Results look natural and can be seen as early as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results after one to three months. The only thing required to prepare your body for treatments is proper hydration. You will be asked to drink plenty of water the day before, the day of and the day after treatment. Our office recommends to drink half your body weight in ounces. This will help rid your body of excess fluid and toxins and aid in metabolic processes.
Exilis, based on breakthrough technology, safely and effectively delivers thermal energy below the surface of skin, where connective tissue is naturally produced. In response to this radio frequency energy, connective tissue production is promoted, leading to the rejuvenation of the skin and a decrease in drooping jowls, sagging skin, and uneven skin tone. Exilis is predictable and consistent in its results and delivers younger, more vibrant skin after just one non-invasive treatment.
Exilis is a new type of radio frequency device that reduces facial wrinkles and unwanted pockets of body fat. It’s a great non-invasive alternative to surgical liposuction. Its results aren’t as dramatic as liposuction, but it’s a much safer and easier procedure for people who want to rejuvenate and re-contour their bodies.
- Sagging skin
- Loose skin
- Localized fat cells
Although Exilis was first used to smooth out wrinkles around the eyes, doctors soon found it successfully tightens skin on other areas of the face—and on the body as well.
Main effects of Exilis:
The heat from the sound waves causes the dermis (the skin’s innermost layer) to contract. It also stimulates the formation of new connective tissue. Connective tissue is a protein that helps keep skin taut and healthy. In addition, the heat generated by the Exilis technology—coupled with the vibrations of the device’s oscillating mechanical waves—liquefies and releases fat from the skin’s fat cells, thus shrinking and tightening up the treated area even more.(*)
What is the treatment like?
Exilis treatments require no anesthetic. The procedure is pain-free. During the procedure, you’ll feel only a slight warming sensation as the device is guided over the area being treated. The entire session will last about 20 or 30 minutes, perhaps longer if a larger area is being targeted. Afterwards, your skin will appear slightly reddish for about 30 minutes or so.
How Many Treatments are Needed?
Some individuals get good results after only a couple treatments, but for best results, most people need 4 to 6 treatment sessions*, spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart. Results last for about 6 months*. To keep the treated area of the skin taut and smooth, maintenance sessions (usually 1 every 4 months on the face and 1 a month for the body) are recommended.
Skin that has lost its spring isn't the result of just one cause. Several factors are likely responsible for making your once supple skin appear tired and droopy. The most common cause of sagging skin is ageing. As you age, your skin loses the connective tissue and elastin, your skin's supportive connective tissue, that make it look soft, plump and youthful. In addition, facial muscles can weaken with age, which takes a toll too. Getting older means more exposure to the dreaded pull of gravity; which we know causes skin to sag a little further down with each passing day.
Sun exposure is another reason for skin losing its elasticity. The sun's powerful rays damage skin cells which, over time, this can increase the effects of ageing. It's a double-edged sword -- all that ultraviolet radiation you soaked up while getting the perfect tan was also breaking down your connective tissue and elastin, which can lead to saggy skin and wrinkles.
Last but not least, weight loss, especially the loss of large amounts of weight over a short period of time, can cause skin to sag. Those who undergo bariatric surgery often find themselves stuck with skin and tissue too stretched out to snap back People who lose a lot of weight quickly with diet and exercise may be disappointed by the amount of skin that is left sagging after all their hard work and discipline. Despite all of these skin-sabotaging factors, you are not necessarily stuck with skin that's gone slack.
Lower Levels of Thyroid Hormone:
The thyroid hormone helps keep your metabolism in check. If you’re experiencing weakness, dry skin, or depression along with your weight gain, it could be because your thyroid is not producing enough hormones. There is thyroid medication that can help bring your metabolism back up to speed. It is recommended to consult a doctor before proceeding with any medication.
In order to lose this last bit of stubborn fat you will have to diet and train more intensely. Sometimes that doesn't work or is just straight up not possible. This is where specific dietary supplements that target fat loss come into play.
While all cells contain some fat, it is mainly stored in muscle (intramuscular triglycerides) and in adipose tissue (body fat). Adipose tissue is the body's main fat storage site and the fat we all want to lose.
Adipose tissue is divided into individual cells called adipocytes. These adipocytes hold stored triglyceride (1 glycerol molecule bonded to 3 fatty acids) droplets, which serve as a source of energy for the body. These droplets make up 95% of adipocytes' volume. In order for this storage of potential energy (60,000-100,000 kcal) to be used and to LOSE BODY FAT (everyone's goal), it must be mobilized through lipolysis (the breakdown of triglycerides).
Lipolysis involves splitting the triglycerides into a glycerol molecule and 3 separate fatty acids (FFA). Once the fatty acids diffuse (exit) from the adipocytes, they bind to plasma albumin (a protein in the blood) in order to be transported to active tissues where they can be burned. In order to lose body fat, the fatty acids must be burned!
Unfortunately, as the body ages, your metabolism slows down. According to the Weight Management Centre at the University of Pittsburgh, by the age of 25 you’re burning about 75 calories fewer calories than you did at age 25. That means you can’t eat like you used to, as well as need to exercise more and choose healthier foods. Choosing protein with lower fat content such as chicken breasts and fish rather than red meat or eggs can help put your body back to it’s younger ways.
Fine lines and wrinkles:
Wrinkles are caused by a combination of factors — some you can control, others you can't. As you get older, your skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile. Decreased production of natural oils dries your skin and makes it appear more wrinkled. Fat in the deeper layers of your skin diminishes. This causes loose, saggy skin and more-pronounced lines and crevices.
Ultraviolet radiation, which speeds the natural ageing process, is the primary cause of early wrinkling. Exposure to UV light breaks down your skin's connective tissue and elastin fibers, which lie in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). Without the supportive connective tissue, your skin loses strength and flexibility. Skin then begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.
Smoking can accelerate the normal ageing process of your skin, contributing to wrinkles. This may be due to changes in the blood supply to your skin.
Repeated facial expressions. Facial movements and expressions, such as squinting or smiling, lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. As skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place. These grooves then become permanent features on your face.
As your skin begins to sag and age, you'll likely notice an increase in wrinkles. With saggy skin, you may notice folding and wrinkles, especially around areas on your face where you express emotion, like around your eyes and mouth. Skin may also look paler and more translucent, as it lacks the filler that it used to have in order to make the skin look plump. The cause of saggy skin all goes back to one factor: the thinning of the outer layer of skin or epidermis. As your skin thins, it also loses the layer of fat that kept your skin looking youthful and plump. With less fat in your skin, it begins to sag and look more aged, wrinkled and fragile. Your sebaceous glands produce less oil as you age, making your skin drier and more prone to wrinkles. In short, age is the cause of facial skin sagging you may also notice that you skin is more sensitive.
All our photographs of before and after treatment results are examples only, and do not constitute an implied or any other kind of guarantee of the result of treatment procedures. Results can vary significantly between our clients. All our treatment results are subject to the individualizes of each client.
Furthermore, all treatment procedures carry potential risks and complications which are described in detail in our treatment consents forms. These may include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, asymmetry, dissatisfaction with the result and the expense of further treatments to manage a complication (patient forms). If you have any questions regarding these potential risks and complications. Please discuss them with our doctors or aesthetic therapist prior to treatments.
Before undergoing a treatment, please be sure that you understand that YOUR actual results will likely VARY SIGNIFICANTLY from other patient’s results, including their BEFORE & AFTER photos.
This is quite important to understand — that EVEN when you feel that you look very similar to another client in their BEFORE images, your results will likely vary significantly — because you are a unique person. Every individual has NOT only a completely unique physique, but also uniquely individualistic body healing capacities, scarring tendencies and recovery processes — some of which are unpredictable even in very-healthy patients who rest adequately and do ALL the other right things before and after their procedure.
