Slender Wonder Slimming
Slender Wonder is a medical weight loss programme that treats patients who struggle with overweight or obesity. Only Slender Wonder accredited doctors, who were trained by the organisation, are allowed to prescribe and distribute the programme. Slender Wonder was developed by a South African doctor, Dr Jan Botha and has more than 200 accredited doctors countrywide. Their safe and effective weight loss programme has evolved over 40 years with tens of thousands of patients being treated successfully in South Africa.
At Slender Wonder we treat the cause of obesity and not just the symptoms. Because of this approach, we have an excellent success rate.
Slender Wonder is a Medical Weight Loss Programme which means that it can only be done through our network of accredited Slender Wonder Doctors. This is not a weight loss programme based on kilojoules, but, rather a formula based on a low GI eating plan, our Slender Wonder products (shake and supplements), as well as a series of injections that helps to improve the body’s Leptin sensitivity.
Slender Wonder focuses on the cause of obesity and not only the symptoms!
Neuro-Endocrinology of Leptin – the Hunger Hormone Obesity can be easily defined: it is the result of a positive energy balance, which comes about as a consequence of an increased ratio of calorie intake to energy expenditure. A more recent definition is simply ‘Brain Starvation’ – and it has all to do with the hormone, Leptin. The understanding of how peripheral organs communicate with the brain fundamentally changed in 1994 with the discovery of the hormone Leptin. Leptin, derived from the Greek word for “thin”, acts within the hypothalamus to control food intake and energy expenditure.
During the past decade, there was an explosion of research published about the specific functions of Leptin on a cellular level as well as the signalling cascades that mediate its effects. The evidence indicates that Leptin plays a crucial role in the regulation of body fat by coordinating metabolism, feeding behaviour, energy balance and neuroendocrine response.
Leptin is key to the management of the entire endocrine system and Leptin sensitivity is crucial for normal functioning of the adrenals, thyroid, and sex hormones.
What is the role of Leptin?
Leptin is secreted primarily from white adipose tissue, and to a lesser extent from the bone marrow, the placenta and stomach. Leptin circulates in the blood, bound to a protein, enters the brain, binds to its receptors in the hypothalamus and acts on central neural networks. Normally, Leptin signals the brain to inhibit feeding. If Leptin is absent, feeding is uncontrolled and relentless. The brain does not get the message to stop eating.
In summary, overweight people may have large amounts of Leptin, but the brain is not getting the important signal to stop eating due to a phenomenon called ‘Leptin resistance’. In Leptin resistance, the brain is starved (low Leptin levels), while the body is obese (high blood levels of Leptin). That is in essence the definition of obesity: brain starvation.

All our photographs of before and after treatment results are examples only, and do not constitute an implied or any other kind of guarantee of the result of treatment procedures. Results can vary significantly between our clients. All our treatment results are subject to the individualities of each client.
Furthermore, all treatment procedures carry potential risks and complications which are described in detail in our treatment consents forms. These may include but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, asymmetry, dissatisfaction with the result and the expense of further treatments to manage a complication (patient forms). If you have any questions regarding these potential risks and complications. Please discuss them with our doctors or aesthetic therapist prior to treatments.
Before undergoing a treatment, please be sure that you understand that YOUR actual results will likely VARY SIGNIFICANTLY from other patient’s results, including their BEFORE & AFTER photos.
This is quite important to understand — that EVEN when you feel that you look very similar to another client in their BEFORE images, your results will likely vary significantly — because you are a unique person. Every individual has NOT only a completely unique physique but also uniquely individualistic body healing capacities, scarring tendencies and recovery processes — some of which are unpredictable even in very-healthy patients who rest adequately and do ALL the other right things before and after their procedure.
